Oct. 18, 2006 (Rockland, ME)- Renewed interest and heavy demand for the two hour scenic train ride between Brunswick and Rockland means a longer season for
the Maine Eastern Railroad.
Originally scheduled to end with the foliage, railroad management has
decided to continue passenger excursion service through the 2nd
weekend of November. The company will also operate additional Christmas theme trains in December.
According to Gordon Page, Director of Passenger Operations, the
company will offer the regular schedule through November 5th, followed by an abbreviated weekend schedule through the 12th.
The extended season will also include a special shopping
train into Rockland for the city?s annual Festival of Lights celebration during Thanksgiving weekend, followed by six Polar Express Trains and seven Candy Cane Express Trains, all aimed at families with
young children.
Claiming a successful summer and early fall, Page said the phones are
still ringing and the staff is still taking reservations. "As long as
people want to ride the rails, we're going to accommodate them", he
said.
The railroad will also be running four special Halloween trains on
October 28th and 29th which will be open to the public, and one
special charter Halloween train for students from selected schools.
