Senator Susan M. Collins, the Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation, and CruiseMaine recently celebrated three Bar Harbor area organizations
Bar Harbor, ME- US Senator Susan M. Collins was the guest of honor at a Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation (CICF) event co-sponsored by CruiseMaine; the function celebrated the diligent efforts of three local organizations. The well attended event took place onboard Holland America Line’s ms Maasdam while the ship was at anchor in Frenchmen’s Bay.
The CICF donated ten thousand dollars to each of the following:
Prior to assisting with the presentations, Senator Collins thanked the cruise industry for their outstanding contributions to Maine’s economy and observed the industry’s corporate stewardship of Maine’s delicate coastline, as well as their outstanding civic activism. Tom Dow, Vice President of Public Affairs for Carnival Corporation, PLC was the event’s official host. Mr. Dow highlighted the importance of each of the local organization’s individual contributions, and thanked each recipient for their leadership roles fostering the community’s environmental and conservation efforts. Mr. Dow announced that Holland America Line had been working with Acadia National Park on a new program that will allow Park Ranger’s to board the vessel and present passengers who are still on the ship with information about the characteristics of the park and the benefits of supporting the park’s conservation efforts. Prior to disembarking the ship, each guest was presented with a copy of SHIP TO SHORE, a joint publication from the Ocean Conservation Tourism Alliance between Conservation International and the International Council of Cruise Lines, which featured a section on the Mt. Desert Island Water Quality Coalition’s water quality testing program they conducted in Frenchmen’s Bay. Download the two SHIP TO SHORE pdf files here Part 1 and Part 2.
