Maine Eastern Railroad Activates Passenger Rail to Rockland for Lobster Festival

The Maine Lobster Festival Train will operate passenger service between Brunswick and Rockland, Maine from Thursday, August 5 through Sunday, August 8, 2004.

Passengers will ride in comfort in deluxe, climate controlled passenger coach cars along the spectacular Maine coast, past magnificent vistas showcasing Maine's natural beauty. Light snacks and beverages will be available in the on-board cafe car.

One excursion daily will depart the temporary rail station on Cedar Street in Brunswick, making one stop in Bath to pick up passengers. The scenic passage from Brunswick to Rockland will take approximately 2-hours, and passengers will have the opportunity to spend several hours (see daily schedule) at the festival prior to the return trip home.

The service is being operated by Maine Eastern Railroad in response to a request from Governor John E. Baldacci that a pilot rail program be established on the Rockland Branch line this summer. The Lobster Festival Train is being coordinated by the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA) with funds made available through the Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT).
