PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE ON LD 1158 VESSEL DISCHARGES

There will be a public hearing on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 437 of the State Office Building in Augusta.  CruiseMaine is preparing a statement of support stressing the importance of the cruise business to Maine.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection has continued to receive comments and thoughts concerning the proposals contained in the "Discharge from Vessels" report (11/1/03). A "revised summary and recommendations" (with revised proposed statutory amendment draft) is available on the website at:
http://www.state.me.us/dep/blwq/topic/vessels/index.htm

There is also a link to the recently accepted report "Pumpout Plan Report
and Proposed No Discharge Areas", at the same location, and they've
continued to add new documents/links to the "materials" page.

Please feel free to submit additional comments, they can be forwarded to Hetty.L.Richardson@maine.gov or Pamela.D.Parker@maine.gov.

For more information on the hearing or proposed legislation, please contact CruiseMaine Director Amy Powers at 207.310.0998 or aepowers@aol.com.
