New Maine Discovery Center Now Open

The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, Maine Lighthouse Museum and the Museum's collaborating partners invite you to visit the new Maine Discovery Museum.

The volunteer crews have been busy all winter and now the CWO Kenneth Black Exhibition Hall is ready for public viewing. The world-class Petit Manan second order lens has been repaired and the flash panels will be operational. Baker Island light has been repaired. And in the past month, Stephen Liberty and his Liberty Hospitality crew moved in the famous Abby Burgess 1856 Matinicus Bell. The most famous bell in the lighthouse world is the size of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.

The collaborating partners of the Chamber and the Museum each have exhibits on the 10,000 square foot visitor center floor. The Owls Head Transportation Museum has a splendid Model T and 1901 Steffey Motor Bike on exhibit. The Island Institute has suspended an 8' dolphin skeleton from the rafters along with images and photographs from the islands. The Maine Lobster Festival, Rockland Historical Society, Farnsworth Art Museum, Penobscot Marine Museum and the General Henry Knox Museum each have professional exhibits on the visitor center floor.

The Maine Lighthouse Museum has been moved into a new 5,000 square foot space, with many new exhibits and several restored lenses. Come visit the museum and see this extraordinary collection of Fresnel lenses and lighthouse artifacts.
